Post-Dine Review Issues

With so many email service providers (ESPs) on the market, there are inevitably many different settings and features. This means that email service providers like Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook will all have different security, spam, and default email settings.

Emails will look slightly different depending on the ESP, but Yumpingo tests all types to make sure the formatting is in place and displays correctly.

Corporate ESPs

Corporate emails often have much firmer email gateways in place to protect their employees from spam and phishing attempts. These settings are set by each specific company's IT team and so it's not always possible to work around them. Yumpingo works hard to have high deliverability rates despite this and works to ensure post-dining emails meet the rigorous industry standards on safety.

If you've used a company email address, especially one that uses Outlook, you may have received a review that didn't have images loading or didn't quite look right.

Try these suggestions below to ensure Yumpingo emails work with your companies' email restrictions

  • Discuss with your internal IT team, they may be able to whitelist all emails from @reviews.yumpingo.com
  • Try using a personal email address when doing any test post dining reviews
  • Check the junk settings on your email so that they don't automatically mark any emails with images as junk/spam.
  • Move the email into your inbox and switch from 'Text' to 'HTML'

Rest assured, even if you aren't able to see the Yumpingo email template in your corporate email inbox, less than 1% of emails provided use a company email address so this will affect a very small amount of diners.

Outlook

Of the larger ESPs, Outlook has stricter spam and security policies in place. This means that a larger number of emails may land in a junk or spam folder or not be received at all, especially if the user is using an older version of Outlook.

Microsoft Outlook uses Microsoft Word to render the HTML of their emails. This causes the formatting of emails to be rendered differently from other email clients like Gmail or Apple Mail, which is because Microsoft Word is meant for text design and not HTML.

Some versions of Microsoft Outlook do not support the following:

  • Buttons
  • Canter-aligned images
  • Embedded fonts
  • Padding/spacing
  • Line height

Based on the overall Market share of email clients, less than 5% of email addresses are using Outlook and even less so are using the older versions that disable the features above. For comparison, Apple ESPs are over 50% and Gmail at over 30%.
